Solitude

Oh, our intentions.  We set intentions for greatness, and in my case I set intentions for over-achieving and then beat myself up over not accomplishing my goals.  We always have the best intentions, and yet somehow lose sight of what is really important.  I really wanted to be on top of publishing my Magical Moments every week.  I did it every day for a month for crying out loud.  But, alas, life happens.  Work happens.  Homeschooling happens. Choreographing and casting shows happen.  Housework happens. My dogs need attention.  My kids need attention.  My husband needs attention.  This is all part of life that we don't put on a list to check off and make us feel good, but the part of life that really SHOULD be on the list and most definitely makes us feel good when we take the time to soak up the energy it creates.  Spend a little extra time hugging your family.  Spend a little extra time feeling good about a job well done.  You deserve it!

I found my Magical Moments for this post mainly while in solitude.  That's a fun word.  It is a lack of contact or isolation.  It doesn't seem important, but it is essential for anyone to be functional.  Think about it.  When little children do something naughty, we put them in "Time Out" so they can pull themselves together and become human beings again.  As parents, we have those moments of locking ourselves in the bathroom, just to get away for a measly five minutes.  We need this.  We need time to clear our head and focus on our well being.  It doesn't mean we have to sit and meditate for an hour, or even ten minutes.  It just means taking the time to be with ourselves and breathing.  Breathing is good.  We are taught breathing techniques before giving birth to help calm our minds and get us through it.  Breathing clears our heads and fills us with a serenity that can not be accomplished any other way.  Over the last few weeks, I have tried very hard to make sure that I find Solitude every single day.

Magical Moments
#1. Early morning yoga, before the sun comes up, in front of my candle-lit fireplace.  This is truly Magical.  Taking a few moments to stare at the candle flame before begininning a 20-30 min Yoga session is the very best way to start the day.  Of course it is my INTENTION to get out of bed and do this every morning, but in all honesty, it happens about once a week.

#2.  Early morning snuggles, just listening to the silence.  One of the reasons I don't do my yoga every morning is because I just love laying in bed and listening and reflecting.  I take this time to remember my dreams (or nightmares in many cases) and think about what theat means in my life.  I am a dreamer.  It takes me 5 minutes of sleep to get into the dream state and I almost always remember major chunks of most of my dreams.  I try to write them down, but again, that is the intention, but not necessarily what happens.

#3.  Long drives.  Some people hate getting in the car and driving for long periods of time.  I especially like to be the passenger.  Sometimes it is a way for me to get things done, like choreography, schedule planning or other things that just require me to sit down and do it.  I also like the SOLITUDE of just staring out the window and watching the peaceful farm houses drift by and I imagine what it would be like to live out in the middle of nowhere in complete peace with nature.  I am sure the people actually living in those houses have a completely different outlook on life, but I like to dream that is what it is like.

#4.  Morning walks with my puppies.  I just love this time of the day.  Some days I listen to books on tape or classes that I am taking, but I just love enjoying nature early in the morning.  This is the time that I find my feathers, see my colorful clouds and notice the shimmery dew in the grass as it is illuminated by the morning sun.

#5.  Dandelion wishes.  I am not sure where it came from, as all the other dandelions seemed to have already disappeared, but I found a perfectly round wishing dandelion just calling my name.  It wasn't a particularly windy day, but I made sure I faced so that my wishes would fly into the wind, ready to come true.

#6.  Magical numbers.  I love finding the magical numbers through my day.  Those times when I just happen to look up at 11:11 or see 3 1's or 3 4's on the license plate in front of me.  When I look down at my phone and it is the 22nd and I have 2 messages and 22 emails waiting.  I am not always sure what they mean, even when I look them up, but I know it is something or someone trying to get my attention.  I try to pay attention to the moment and let it guide me.

#7.  Pennies from Heaven.  They might not be from Heaven.  They might just come from my messy husband's pockets, but they find their way into my day.  Every day.  I find them everywhere:  the bathroom floor, the laundry, my vanity, the ground while I am shopping, in the mail.  I don't care where they come from, but I know someone is thinking about me.  Just like my feathers.  They obviously come from birds, but why do I always seem to find them.  I just choose to believe it is because someone is looking out for me.

Don't forget to find your magic.
